Our Newest Adventure // A Puppy // Stella June

Meet Stella June
We are so excited to announce the newest Lovelace, Stella June. She already has ALL the nicknames, my favorites being: Stel, Stels, and Stella Girl. Daniel let me pick her name! I originally came up with three: Stella, Latin for star, Denali, a National Park in Alaska that I LOVE, and Mukwa, meaning bear in my Native American language. I liked all three but Stella kept with me and her coat kind of reminds me of constellations. So, Stella it is! She is a Liver Roan German Short Haired Pointer. The Liver Roan describes her unique coloring. Her dad was Liver and White Patched while her mom was Liver Roan.
Our girl was born on June 21st, 2019 and came home with us September 2nd when she was 10 weeks old. She weighed in at a solid 18.1 lbs. at 11 weeks old for her vet appointment! She’s a big girl and we love her! We visited her at 6 weeks and she was the sweetest little thing. A bit chunky, but chunky puppies are just too cute. We got her from a farm in Whipple, OH. Her mom was on her last litter of puppies because she’s getting a bit old. Out of nine only three survived. When we met her and her sisters we knew she’d be the one. There was one that looked like dad with an even mellower personality, her, and another just like her who was WILD. We liked her because she was a nice mix.
A Few Things I’ve Learned About Stell
Her breed is basically part Mountain Goat. They climb up on EVERYTHING!
She loves to nap in my lap. Problem being, she isn’t getting any smaller! I love that she’s a cuddler.
She needs to be exercised often. I will say, she is pretty chill for her breed and for being a puppy but I know for fact she tends to do better when I am active with her. It works out, I play outside and get fresh air, she calms down.
She LOVES being outside. I think it’s because the breeder had them outside all the time but man does she love it.
She HATES to be hot. Like legit hates it! She sleeps with us in the bed and when she gets too hot cuddling with us she huffs and moves to the end of the bed. She’s going to love FALL!
Car rides are life. She simply takes a nap. I think this is because when we got her she rode in the van with Daniel and slept. She’s so good in the car!
She’s got a nose. You take something away and hide it. She finds it. You hide it better. She finds it again. This pup seeks and finds.
99.9% of my life now consists of cleaning up after her poop (outside because we haven’t had an accident yet), fixing her inside out ears, and wiping her eye boogers.
She is smart as ALL GET OUT! Training her is pretty easy but you have to be consistent.
She sheds tiny white hairs on dark clothes and tiny brown hairs on white clothes. I don’t mind so much and they don’t seem to get anywhere until she lays there.
So, why did we pick a high energy dog? Have you met us? We are pretty high energy and fast moving people. We hike, we run, we love move, so why not? When we set out for the perfect dog the German Wirehaired Pointer was also a runner up and may very well be an addition eventually. But, weirdly enough, we had messaged this breeder because a friend of ours has two from them and the pieces just kind of fell into place. I’d been praying for our pup for awhile now so I really do feel like Stella truly was meant for us. She fits into our little family so well as if she’s been here forever. She’s our Stella Girl.
***if anyone is an avid hunter birds preferably (she is a bird dog) we’d love to get her out there eventually. I want to get her used to guns too!
We’ve had her a month now…we are busy and haven’t had the time to take photos with her. I know, we are photographers GET ON IT! But, she knows: eyes (she looks up at us), sit, down, off (for all the things), drop, touch (one of my favs and I taught her this one - she touches her nose to your palm), and we are working on come! SHE ALSO KNOWS HER NAME! Any and all parents understand the excitement of that one!
Also, can we talk about puppy training???? Puppies are no joke! I’m dying over here. It’s getting a bit easier but man oh man, redirecting is a pain sometimes. Especially when I want a lazy day. Daniel and I are both Psych majors but man is it hard to stay consistent sometimes. ALSO, Daniel makes me walk around with a Clikr and treat bag…I MEAN EVERYWHERE WE GO! But, it really does work.
