Emily & Matthew // Wedding at Via Vecchia in Columbus, OH
Emily and Matthew found us with the help of Natasha from Perfectly Planned Weddings + Events and we couldn’t have been happier they did. So, when they reached out and told us they would be getting married at Via Vecchia, I WAS THRILLED. Not only is it such a unique and rustic venue but Matthew’s last name just happens to be Moscato. Could life get any more perfect? Their wedding was filled with little thoughtful details that didn’t go unnoticed.
One of my favorite memories of their special day was how Matthew looked at Emily…ALL DAY! Now it needs mentioning that these two have already spent the past decade together and it was about “damn time” as many of their family and friends mentioned. But time just caused their love to grow and that was one of the most beautiful sights to behold.
How They Met:
Matthew and Emily’s story began almost 10 years ago when they met in high school. Emily’s family lives in the Ohio Valley, and she was visiting them when she decided to tag along with her cousins to a high school talent show (The Follies). Matthew was attending the same event, and the two caught each other’s eye. Their friendship began to grow through the cutting edge technology of AIM and MySpace, and the next time Emily visited Matthew asked her out on their first date to the Wheeling Suspension Bridge. They attended St. John Central High School's homecoming dance together and made it official on November 1st, 2008 after Matthew's high school cross country team won the state title.
Since then, the couple has been hand in hand as they applied for colleges and decided to attend school in Cincinnati; Emily at Xavier University and Matthew at the University of Cincinnati. They then moved to Columbus together where they both worked at Nationwide Children's Hospital.
Their story then returned to Cincinnati when Emily decided to pursue her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Cincinnati. Children's hospitals have become an important part of the couple's life. At Cincinnati Children's Hospital, Matthew is a Contracts Specialist in the Innovation Ventures department, while Emily conducts research in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation to help families of children with brain injury.
On Friday September 1st, 2017, Emily got home from work and Matthew announced that he made dinner reservations for them. Little did Emily know, he had called her boss a few weeks before to ensure that she could finish up early with a patient that day to be home in time for their reservation at arguably the best restaurant in Cincinnati - Sotto. As they pulled up to the restaurant, Emily was thrilled - they had been dying to try Sotto for awhile at this point. After a romantic candlelit Italian dinner featuring goat cheese and honey bruschetta, the most fresh Caprese salad, short rib cappellacci, wood-fired Branzino, and hot donuts for dessert, Matthew announced that he had another surprise. It was a rainy evening, and Emily had no idea what to expect. When he pulled up to the Washington Park garage, Emily thought they might be going to Music Hall or to see a show downtown. However, she became highly suspicious when he asked her to leave her raincoat in the car. He bought a large umbrella for them to share and walked Emily across the park towards the gazebo in the middle of the park. When they reached the gazebo, he got down on one knee and said "don't cry" - as if that would work! He then asked her to spend the rest of their lives together. After the emotional moment between the two of them, Emily looked out past the gazebo through the rain and spotted Matthew's cousin, Ryan, as well as several of their other family members and closest friends. The surprise continued as family told the couple that the waiter from Sotto ran over in the pouring rain with a bottle of Moscato D'Asti and two champagne glasses to celebrate the occasion! The couple was speechless. Matthew then asked Emily if she wanted to grab a drink nearby, and Emily assumed that the surprises were over...As they walked into Igby's in downtown Cincinnati, Emily realized that Matthew reserved a private area for over 20 of their best friends and family, many of whom drove hours to be present for this special moment. The couple celebrated the rest of the night away with bottles of champagne and their favorite people!
